One of the club’s biggest highlights is its aesthetics. It’s located in a commercial building in an upscale area of New York City. Once inside, it feels like stepping into a high-end nightclub.
The main hall features floor-to-ceiling mirrors, a fully stocked bar, vibrant lighting, a dance floor with a mirrored floor, plush sofas, and a pole dancing stage.
Then, there’s an area with restrooms, lockers, and robes, followed by the playroom.
Everything is carefully designed, resulting in a sleek and polished look—very different from traditional clubs that tend to all look alike and often feel basic.
The dress code is also quite strict, following a “dress to impress” policy.
Men are required to wear suits and ties, while women must wear dresses, lingerie, and high heels.
The night I visited, there were about 20 couples, mostly in their 30s and early 40s. Unlike most other clubs I’ve been to, the dance floor was lively, with people cutting a rug most of the night.
The playroom was also well-designed, featuring dim lighting and soft music. It had different lounge areas with sofas, armchairs, cushions, and mattresses. Entry was only allowed in a robe or fully nude.
From what I observed, many couples entered the playroom to enjoy intimacy in the same space as others, but there wasn’t much interaction between different couples—at least not while I was there.
So, is it worth it? Well, if you’re looking for exclusivity, elegance, and a visually appealing crowd, and if these are key factors in your experience, then yes—I do recommend it.
For some, the selective admission process can be a turnoff, but if it aligns with the kind of crowd you’re looking for, Checkmate delivers exactly what it promises.
The average age was slightly younger than in most conventional swing clubs, the dance floor was fantastic, and the presence of security and staff provided a reassuring atmosphere.
Overall, it was a very positive experience!
