Twist Club Episode:
Hi, I’m Mayumi, and I’m here to guide you through the world of swinger clubs, group sex parties, and other sex-positive events worldwide. From what to wear, to the type of fun you’ll find inside, I’m going to pull back the curtain on this intriguing lifestyle.
I recently visited 12 sex-friendly clubs and parties across America to give you the inside scoop and a few juicy details. And hopefully, a little guidance on which of these events might feed your curiosity the next time you’re in a city we explore.
I’ve been researching sexuality, fetishes, and the swinger lifestyle for over a decade. I’ve spoken at TEDx events on the topic, traveled the world discussing sexuality trends and data, and I’m part of a sex-tech company that has over 35 million app users. On this channel, I share my personal experiences and first-hand research to help you discover this pleasure-filled universe.
So – if you’re interested in the world of swingers, or fetish parties, or just want to learn more about non-traditional relationships and sex, you’re in the right place.
And today, our tour begins in the United States, at a swing club in San Francisco, California. It’s called Twist Club!

Twist Club is a very discreet venue from the outside. You wouldn’t even guess there’s a nightclub or bar inside if you were just walking by. It’s so low-key that I accidentally lined up for a completely unrelated venue on the same street.
I only realized I was in the wrong place once I noticed that the crowd just seemed too young, and no one was carrying bottles (because at Twist, you have to bring your own drinks). And then it clicked—I was in the wrong spot. Oops!
Once you do make it to Twist, you press a little intercom button, say hello, and they buzz you in. Keep in mind there’s a staircase you need to climb upon entry.
Inside, the space is divided into a social area, which is more like a traditional lounge, a dance floor and the famous playrooms, the areas designated for more intimate interactions.
Women and couples can buy their tickets at the door, but single men must get prior approval via email. Eligibility depends on the day and exact type of event, and there’s a limit to how many single men can attend each night.
Entry fees are reasonable, but as is typical in the swinger community, single men pay more than others. For the event I checked out, it was 20 dollars for single women, 85 bucks for couples, and 125 for single men.
Twist Club offers a BYOB policy. You bring your drinks, leave your products with the bar team, and they take care of the rest.
I would say that the etiquette rules and expected behaviors at Twist follow the standard for these kinds of venues, emphasizing common sense and respect. So a couple things to remember:
Don’t interfere with people who are having fun unless you’ve been invited to join.
Don’t stare or stand too close to people you aren’t playing with.
Always ask before doing anything. Consent must be clear and verbal—it cannot be assumed.
I highly recommend that you read the club rules on their website before visiting, even if you’re just going to observe, and especially if you’re a first-time guest.
Speaking of observing, a lot of people ask me: Can I go just to watch? Yes! There’s absolutely no problem with that. Your interactions and comfort level are completely up to you, nothing is mandatory.
But if you’re attending as a couple, you must stay together—one partner can’t enter the playrooms while the other hangs out at the bar.
At Twist Club, it’s not cool to enter a playroom with your clothes on. If you want to participate, you have to undress. I managed to take a peek inside the playrooms before 11:30, while they were still empty, but after that, security told me to get naked or get lost. Just kidding, they were more polite than that— but I chose to stay outside this time. 😅
This rule might feel intimidating for first-timers, but the idea is to create an equal environment for everyone. If you want to look, you have to be looked at. And I think it’s fair.
The feel of Twist Club itself is very similar to many of the swing clubs we have in Brazil.
The first area you enter after check-in has a coat room, a bar, a lounge, a dance floor, and the playrooms are in the back.
The decor at Twist features a lot of neon, LED lights, and some gaudy decorations.
It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it creates a sort of nightclub vibe.
So the big question…, was it worth it? Well, my experience was an interesting one. I went on a Friday night, and the atmosphere was pretty calm and relaxed. There were about six couples and five singles, and I talked to some of them to better understand the swinger community in the U.S.—and everyone was very friendly.
But compared to some of the swinger clubs in Brazil, Twist felt a bit dull.
The dance floor was empty—not a single person dancing!
Couples weren’t really engaging with each other before entering the playroom.
And most people were quietly mingling in corners—it was all very discreet.
And then after 11:30, everyone disappeared. So, I guess most of the fun happens in the playrooms.
Still, the venue was clean, well-organized, and had all the necessary supplies:
A serviced bar, A table with snacks, And of course, condoms and lubricants
And I’ll mention that we were warmly welcomed by the club manager, who was friendly and accommodating.
Overall, I think Twist Club is a great place for newcomers to the swinger world who want a discreet, safe, and well-organized environment. It’s not the most exciting club I’ve ever been, but it delivers what it promises: an open-minded venue to get intimate with others!
Here’s a tip for planning your next visit to a swing club: bring along a friend—it’s always more fun with a little company!
